Dr. Mureen Shaw named finalist for the Miami Chamber of Commerce Health Care Heroes Award

Mureen Shaw DNP, FNP-BC, was named a finalist for the Nurse category and received a plaque at the Health Care Heroes Awards hosted by the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce. The event, which took place May 10, was sponsored by AXA Advisors.

The Health Care Heroes Awards recognize the collective actions of the individuals, institutions, and programs that have made an extraordinary impact in the South Florida health care community, and whose acts of heroism represent a display of dedication to excellence in their area of expertise beyond the scope of their profession.

Shaw was nominated for her involvement in the community through her collaboration with the Lambda Chi chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, Medicine in Action, His House Children’s Home and other organizations. She has worked diligently to advance health care throughout the world by administering her nursing practice in the Caribbean, as well as providing mentorship to groups of students to learn about the human connection by bonding with abandoned, abused or neglected children.

“A Hero is someone who puts their own personal needs aside for some greater good and that’s exactly what Mureen does,” said Dr. John McFadden, PhD, CRNA, dean of Barry’s College of Nursing and Health Sciences. “We have, as our mission, engaging in individual and communal transformation. Mureen doesn’t wait to have a community identified for her; she puts the wheels of change in motion and she does it on her own initiative. She touches the lives of all her students and, in turn, they touch the lives of many.”
