Barry University students Julian Da Silva and Roland Schiller, both from the College of Arts and Sciences, will have their research paper published in the Journal of Systemics.
Their paper, titled “Unmanned Aerial Vehicle-Based Automobile License Plate Recognition System for Institutional Parking Lots,” was among the best presented at the 21st annual World Multi-Conference on Systemics, Cybernetics and Informatics (WMSCI) — ranking in the top 25-30 percent. It also was named best in session. The students also made an oral presentation at the conference, which took place in July in Orlando.
Faculty members Drs. Ricardo Jimenez, assistant professor of computer science and chair of the mathematics and computer science department, and Sanja Zivanovic, associate professor of mathematics and assistant chair, served as mentors to the students and provided direction and support.
In an email to Da Silva and Schiller, Dr. Karen Callaghan, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, wrote, “Congratulations Julian and Roland! Well done. I hope you realize how few undergraduates are able to accomplish this level of scholarly work.”
