BSN students volunteer at community public health event

Twenty-five students from Barry University’s undergraduate nursing program (BSN) recently volunteered at a community public health event hosted by The Cathedral of St. Mary Catholic School. The students were also joined by five faculty members from the College of Nursing & Health Sciences.

The event aligned with the students’ clinical day for NUR 422 (Community Public Health), and their time spent at the event went toward clinical community service hours.

During the public health event, students gained first-hand experience in the health screening process, which helped them to understand the value of such community health events. Health promotion and screenings, which Barry nursing students often volunteer for, are an integral part of community health nursing.
