Barry University-Extended Learning collaborate for ‘Effective Supervision’ workshop in Palm Beach

Dr. David M. Kopp, professor and associate dean in the Adrian Dominican School of Education (ADSOE), and Christina Davis, director of recruitment for Extended Learning, recently attended the Palm Beach HR Chapter where Kopp presented a workshop titled “Effective Supervision” at the monthly pre-Meeting.

During the workshop, participants learned tips and techniques on how to effectively lead and manage employees. Discussions included learning when to delegate, when to be task-driven versus relationship focused, and when further employee training may be warranted based on the status of the employee's willingness and ability. The workshop also addressed performance philosophy and strategic aspects of performance management.

“The risk of not supervising employee development is the Peter Principle; that is, having employees promoted to their level of incompetence,” Kopp said. “Effective supervisors know to delegate to those who are willing and able to do their job well.”

Christina Davis also presented the various undergraduate programs available through Barry University’s School of Professional and Career Education (PACE) as well as courses available through ADSOE’s Extended Learning programs, including Human Resource Development, Educational Leadership, and Curriculum and Instruction.

This workshop also incorporated the philosophy and strategic aspects of managing the performance of your followers. The program has been applied for SHRM and HRCI Recertification credits. Meetings are open to members, student members and guests.
