Barry Law Moot Court Teams Impress at Orseck Moot Court Competition

Barry Law Team Heads to Finals at Orseck Moot Court Competition, Wins Best Brief

Barry University School of Law's Moot Court team is off to an impressive 2018-2019 season with two teams bringing home plaques at the Robert Orseck Moot Court Competition.

This annual competition, sponsored by the Florida Bar Young Lawyers division, takes place during the Florida Bar convention.  The final argument is judged by the entire Florida Supreme Court.

Barry Law students Eric Sorice and Alena Morgan were finalists and had the privilege of arguing before the Florida Supreme Court.  Evelyn Schwalb and Billie Guertin won "Best Brief" and missed making it a Barry Law v. Barry Law final round by .4 of a point, according to Professor Terri Day, Faculty Director of the Moot Court Program at Barry Law. Amazingly, this was the first competition for each one of the advocates.

"Much credit goes to Leanne Palmer, a Barry grad and former Moot Court Chief Justice, who co-coached both teams, and Flor Leiva, a 3L Moot Court star, who served as a student coach," said Day.

"Thanks to all of the advocates, coaches, and alums who mooted the teams.  Once again, Barry Moot Court teams have brought distinction to the Barry Law School community."
