What year did you graduate from Barry University?

2015

Which degree did you earn?

Bachelor of Science in Clinical Biology

In a nutshell, what do you do?

I perform and run tests ordered by physicians and health care providers to help diagnose illnesses. I work behind the scenes in the lab to analyze these specimens and perform all required tests.

What are you working on right now?

I am currently a medical technologist in a microbiology lab at a hospital in Tampa. I analyze patient specimens for bacterial, fungal and viral infections. It is a high-paced environment where we service several hospitals and medical offices.

Why do you love what you do?

I absolutely love what I do because I help others by assisting doctors with the diagnosis of illnesses. Not only that, but I have always loved microbiology and virology. I never wanted to be on the front line, so being behind the scenes has been a perfect fit.

How did Barry University help prepare you for the future?

Barry helped me in a tremendous way by giving me the opportunity to obtain my degree in medical technology. The professors, advisors and faculty were always a great support system while attending Barry.

They consistently checked in with me and encouraged the best in me during my studies. I gained valuable experience through the various internships at the hospitals Barry placed me at. Plus, I got the chance to visit several medical sites and explore different career options.

Anything else you’d like to add?

I recently graduated from the University of South Florida with a Master of Science in Medical Sciences with a concentration in Molecular Medicine to hopefully advance my career in supervisory roles. I plan on not limiting myself, but really exploring all options in medical technology. The opportunities in the medical field are endless — you just have to go out there, find them and take chances.
