LEWISBURG, Pa.— The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) has announced the 2011 All-America Teams and five Barry University crew members were selected to two teams. Junior Jaimee Lampard earned a spot on the 2011 Division II Pocock All-America Team while Renee Forcier, Courtney Greene, Nicole Marek, and Vanessa Viadero were selected to the 2011 Scholar All-America Team.
The Pocock All-America award is designed to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of female rowers and coxswains during the current season. Athletes are nominated by their coaches and selected by the respective CRCA Division II awards committee.
Lampard becomes the 11th overall, ans second Barry University rower in as many years, to find a spot on the All-America team. Last year Rebekah Evans earned the accolade. Lampard boasts a 7:15 2,000 meter erg time. She is a member of the Buccaneer’s varsity 8+ squad and rowed in all seven Buccaneer races this season.
“Jaimee is the type of athlete that raises the performance level of all around her,” head coach Dave Sanderson said. “She is extremely competitive and yet one of the most easy going members of the team.”
Joining Lampard in her All-America honors is Forcier, Greene, Marek, and Viadero on the Scholar All-America Team. Forcier is a junior majoring in biology with a minor in chemistry. Greene is an exercise science major and a junior. Marek, also a junior, is an elementary education major. Viadero, the lone senior on the squad, is an international business major. This is the second CRCA Scholar All-American accolade for each of these four athletes as they took the award last season as well.
Athletes chosen to the scholar All-America team must, among other requirements, have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher for their career and have rowed in a minimum of 75 percent of the current spring races.
The rowing team wraps up the season at the NCAA Division II Championships on May 27-29 at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center in Gold River, California. Washington State University will serve as host. Visit the NCAA Rowing Page for more information on the rowing championships.
