MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The 12th-ranked Barry Buccaneers got back in the win column with a 1-0 victory over Palm Beach Atlantic on Wednesday night at Buccaneer Field.

After a scoreless first period, the Bucs (8-1-3) finally cracked the board in the 75th minute. Mark Anderson and Augusto Medal worked a nifty give-and-go in the box. Anderson deftly touched the ball around Sailfish keeper Steven Bush and scored into the empty net.

Barry keeper Johnny Rodrigues, who had five saves to preserve the shutout, made two saves on three shots in 0:12 seconds just a minute before Anderson’s goal. PBA’s leading scorer Kenny Hogg, who entered the game with 11 goals, broke free on the right side and ripped a shot that Rodrigues was able to deflect up, but it came down at the feet of Kevin Ireland. Ireland’s shot deflected off a defender and came out to Gustavo Da Silva who shot the ball from just outside the box, but Rodrigues scampered to his feet to make the save.

Bush also had five saves for the Sailfish (5-6-0) in taking the loss.

The goal for Anderson was his 17th of the season, setting a new personal career high, breaking the mark of 16 he had as a sophomore. He is one goal shy of the school record held by Alen Marcina (2002) and Ricardo Raposo (2005). It was also his sixth game-winner this season and 18th of his career. The Buccaneer records are seven for a season and 19 for a career, both held by Marcina.

The Bucs host the Saint Leo Lions on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 7:00 pm. The game will mark senior day for the Bucs as they will honor their five seniors prior to the game. Live statistics and audio broadcast are available through the Barry University athletic website, GOBARRYBUCS.COM.
