Women's Soccer Honors Five Seniors

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.— Five Barry women’s soccer players will celebrate the culmination of their careers with the Barry University soccer program when the Bucs host Saint Leo on Saturday for Senior Night at Buccaneer Field.

Nadia Tjani, Allie Llaneras, Ziena Clein, Joanna Stewart, and Haley Struthers have enjoyed success throughout their careers with the Buccaneers and their accomplishments on and off the field will be recognized Saturday night with their final home game as Buccaneers.

Nadia joined the Bucs this fall and provided a spark in the lockeroom. She has been a great teammate and has fit in with this year’s group, providing a positive attitude and a hardworking mentality. She was also a two year member of the Barry University women’s basketball team, including the 2010 NCAA Tournament team.

Allie is a four year letter winner for the Bucs. She has played in 47 games and over 2300 minutes. She scored her first career goal against Newberry College on September 4th, 2008 as a freshman on what would be the eventual game winner.  She has been named to the SSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll as well as a member of the President’s List in 2008, 2009 and Dean’s List 2010. She is the recipient of the Professor Emerita Neill Miller Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year at the annual athletic awards banquet for consecutive years in 2009 and 2010.

Zeina is a four year letter winner for the Buccaneers and has played in 51 games throughout her career with the Bucs. A strong defender that contributed to eleven shutouts for the Buccaneer’s throughout her career. She has been a member of the President’s List, as well as the Dean’s List. She has also been named to the SSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

Joana has played in 65 games in her four year career, and has over 2400 minutes. She scored a pair of goals against Georgia Southwestern on September 17th, 2010. This season she added a goal and an assist in a 6-1 victory over Eckerd and assisted on the game-winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Palm Beach Atlantic on October 11th. She has been named to the Dean’s List four times and the President’s List twice and the SSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll for her academic excellence.

Struthers has played in 63 games logging over 3800 minutes throughout her four years at Barry. She has scored 9 career goals and six assists including a three goal performance on October 22nd, 2008 against St. Thomas University. She has been a crucial part of the Buc’s defensive third and contributed to 11 shutouts in her four years with the Buccaneers. A member of the President’s List, Dean’s List, as well as the SSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll. She is the co-recipient of the Sister Jeanne O'Laughlin Community Service Award at the athletic awards banquet, and served as the President of Barry's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

The game against Saint Leo starts at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 22nd at Buccaneer field with the senior ceremony starting at 6:50 p.m. Live-stat and audio broadcast will be available through the Barry University athletic website, GOBARRYBUCS.COM.
