MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry University men’s soccer team will be hosting a Sunshine State Conference Tournament game for the third straight year when they welcome the Lions of Saint Leo University Tuesday night.
The 8th ranked Buccaneers finished the regular season 11-2-3, 3-2-3 in SSC play, good for the tournament’s fourth seed and a first round home match. The visiting Lions finished with a 4-4 mark in conference play and a 9-5 overall record.
This will be the second match between the Bucs and Lions this season, as Barry won in decisive fashion winning by a final of 6-0. In that meeting the Bucs received offensive contributions from numerous different players as it was arguably their best performance of the season.
Rodrigo Mancenido, Mark Anderson, Joong Kim, Connor Randel, Kendall Sealy, and Eyal Schechter all scored for the Buccaneers and keeper Johnny Rodrigues stopped six shots on his way to yet another shutout.
The Bucs are led by senior forward All-American Mark Anderson, who leads all of Division II with 19 goals and 42 points, and are anchored by a veteran defensive third that posted a .91 Goals Against Average and five shutouts on the season.
In order for the Buccaneers to advance they will have to contain the Lion’s Joel Purkiss and Edgar Herrera who have combined for nearly half of Saint Leo’s points this season.
The Buccaneers are focused on their task at hand Tuesday night, but their rival and regular season SSC Champions Lynn awaits them in the Semi-final matchup. Should the Buccaneers win Tuesday night they will travel to Boca in hopes to redeem themselves from a season finale 2-0 loss at the hands of the Fighting Knights.
Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. Tuesday night at Buccaneer Field with live-stat and audio broadcast available through the Barry University athletics website, GOBARRYBUCS.COM
