Barry's No. 3-ranked men's golf team enters Tuesday's final round of the Southeastern Collegiate in Valdosta, Ga., in second place.
The Buccaneers, which finished as the team runner-up last week at the St. Edward's Invitational in Austin, Texas, shot 281-287 -- 568 Monday in the first two rounds. Barry is a stroke behind leader North Alabama in the 14-team field.
Barry's Marcelo Huarte shot 70-69 for a 5-under 139, and teammate Daniel Stapff equalled that with a 69-70 on the par-72, 7,140-yard Kinderlou Forest Golf Club, home to host Valdosta State University. Huarte and Stapff are lumped in a three-way tie for fourth with North Alabama's Jake Greer.
Lynn, paced by Marcelo Rozo's 137, is third at 570. Rozo fired a 5-under 65 in the second round, and sits in a tie with West Florida's Carlos Rodriguez in second place. North Alabama's Tyler Chandler leads the tournament, following back-to-back 67s for a 10-under 134.
West Florida shot 573, and is in fourth place heading into the final 18 holes.
Both Huarte and Stapff will tee off in the final two groupings Tuesday around 10:40 a.m. Stapff is bunched in with Chandler and Rozo in the final group.
Barry's Marcus Sergerstrom is tied for eighth after shooting 68-73 -- 141. Teammates Scott Smyers carded back-to-back 75s, and Simon Forsslund 74-79 -- 153.
