NEW YORK — Fresh off their first tournament win of the spring at the Bobcat Invitational, the Barry Buccaneers have jumped into first place in the latest Golf World/Nike Golf Division II College Coaches’ Poll, which combines the resources of Golf World magazine, Nike Golf and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

Barry hasn’t finished worse than second in any tournament since last October, a record that helped the school become the fourth different program to claim the No. 1 spot in the Golf World/Nike Golf men’s Division II coaches’ poll in the most recent voting.

The Buccaneers earned five of the 14 available first-place votes to jump past Lynn and CSU-Stanislaus, who were tied for first in the last poll.

Lynn fell to No. 2, earning one first-place vote, while CSU-Stanislaus dropped to No. 3, but claimed three first-place votes.

Three other programs earned at least one first-place vote in the latest poll: No. 4 Nova Southeastern (1), No. 5 Chico State (3) and No. 6 North Alabama (1).

New to the top 10 is North Alabama. Two schools joined the top 25: No. 23 Central Missouri and No. 25 Indianapolis.

The complete results, including results from Divisions I, III, NAIA and NJCAA will appear in the March 26, 2012 issue of Golf World.
