MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Barry University men’s golf team will host The Buccaneer Invitational presented by Carrabba’s Italian Grill Monday and Tuesday at Normandy Shores Golf Club in Miami Beach.

The Buccaneers are the four-time defending champions at the tournament, which features the top four teams in the country and six of the Top 25. Normandy Shores is a 6,733-yard, par-71 course that was dedicated in December 1941.

Barry is ranked No. 1 in the nation, according to the Golf World/Nike Coaches poll. Lynn is No. 2, Cal State-Stanislaus No. 3 and Nova Southeastern No. 4. Western Washington is No. 10, and Central Missouri is No. 23.

Last year, Barry won the 54-hole tournament by six strokes over West Florida. Nova Southeastern’s Jack Bartlett (2-under 211) was the individual medalist by a stroke over West Florida’s Ryan Black.

Barry won the Bobcat Intercollegiate in Eatonton, Ga., March 19-20. Lynn’s Daniel Young was the medalist at the Bobcat Intercollegiate after shooting 8-under 202. Barry’s Marcus Segerstrom tied for third at 5-under.

Barry has three runner-up finishes this spring, including the Matlock Invitational in Lakeland, Fla., which Florida Tech won. Florida Tech is also in this year’s Buccaneer Invitational field.

Nova Southeastern won the St. Edward’s Invitational in Austin, Texas, by five strokes over Barry March 5-6. Barry’s Daniel Stapff, who owns the school record with four tournament victories, won the St. Edward’s event by six strokes at 9-under 207.

CSU-Stanislaus won the Otter Invitational in Monterey, Calif., in the fall. Western Washington tied for the top spot, both West Coast schools shooting 887. Nova’s Ben Taylor won the event at 5-under 211.

Arnold Palmer, Sam Snead and Peter Thompson are a few of the golf legends who played Normandy Shores regularly.

Scores will be available Monday night and Tuesday late afternoon.
