WINTER PARK, Fla. -- Barry's Marco Mokrzycki was named the Sunshine State Conference men's tennis Player of the Week Monday.
Ranked No. 11 in the country, Mokrzycki upset No. 4-ranked Petr Michnev of No. 11 Hawai'i Pacific Saturday at the White Sands Invitational in Pensacola, Fla., while playing No. 1 singles. He also had a straight sets win over No. 19 UC San Diego's Chapman Chan Sunday.
Mokrzycki was leading No. 30 Ned Boone of No. 15 St. Edward's, needing just a game to wrap up another singles victory, but his match was halted when the No. 3 Bucs (18-4) secured enough team points to end it.
In doubles play with partner Leo Vivas, Mokrzycki won two of the three matches over the weekend. He and Vivas beat St. Edward's Pedro Bronstrup and James Rogers. The No. 13-ranked Bucs duo also defeated UC San Diego's Austin West and Devon Sousa.
Mokrzycki is 12-3 in singles play and 17-4 in doubles this season.
Barry hosts SSC rival Lynn, ranked No. 4 in the country, at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
