MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University men's tennis team hosts rival Lynn University 3 p.m. Wednesday in the final regular season match of the year.
The No. 3 nationally-ranked Buccaneers (18-4, 4-1 Sunshine State Conference) are seeking the top seed at the upcoming SSC Tournament. No. 4 Lynn (14-2, 5-0) would fall into a three-way tie at the top of the league standings with the Bucs and Rollins should Barry win. The tie-breaker being the standings in the ITA poll, the Bucs would claim the top seed with a win.
Barry will honor senior Francisco Sigaud before the match for his contributions to the program this year. Sigaud transferred to Barry following three seasons at Indiana-Purdue at Fort Wayne.
The Buccaneers are 9-3 against ranked opponents this year. Barry is 2-2 against South Region ranked opponents. The Fighting Knights are 6-2 against nationally-ranked foes, and 1-0 against regionally-ranked opponents. The Bucs enter the match ranked No. 2 in the South, while Lynn owns the No. 3 region ranking.
Lynn's losses came to No. 2 nationally-ranked West Florida, 5-4, a day after Barry lost by the same score to the Argos, and to No. 1 nationally-ranked Armstrong Atlantic, 9-0, on March 2. That was a day before the Bucs' match with the top-ranked team was rained out.
Barry's Leo Vivas leads the team with 17 singles victories. No. 27 nationally-ranked Fabian Groetsch has 15, and No. 11 Marco Mokrzycki 12. Ollie Lemaitre has the best individual record at 11-0.
Lynn's Amaury Van Haelen is 13-2. Luca Pavanelli is 11-2. No. 8 nationally-ranked Willi Wolfer is 9-3, and No. 18 Vlad Cirla is 10-4.
The Buccaneers are 46-20 in doubles matches, while the Fighting Knights are 39-9.
