WINTER PARK, Fla. -- Barry University senior Julie Stas (Brussels, Belgium) was named the Sunshine State Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week.

Stas knocked off No. 44-ranked Dominique Wimmer of Nova Southeastern, 7-5, 3-6, 10-7, at No. 2 singles in the No. 2-ranked Buccaneers' 8-1 regular season finale win on the road Saturday.

Stas, accustomed to playing at a lower flight, improved to 2-1 against nationally-ranked opponents this year. She is 12-3 in singles play this season, and 27-5 in her career.

In her only doubles match of the week, Stas and Olivia Matuszak beat Wimmer and Charlotte Cote, 8-3, at No. 2. Stas is 17-2 in doubles matches this year, which includes a 10-2 mark with Matuszak.

Stas ranks tied for ninth all-time among Barry's career doubles wins leaders with 52 victories.

Barry will host the women's and men's Florida Blue Sunshine State Conference Championships Thursday-Saturday at Beerman Tennis Center in Lakeland, Fla. Quarterfinal matches begin at 9 a.m. Thursday.

Barry's women's team is the No. 1 seed and will play No. 8 Tampa in the quarterfinals. Barry's men are the No. 3 seed and will play Florida Tech in the quarters.
