LAKELAND, Fla. -- Barry University hosts the Florida Blue Sunshine State Conference Tennis Championships Thursday-Saturday at Beerman Tennis Center.
Play begins 9 a.m. Thursday with two quarterfinal men's matches. All the men's and women's quarterfinals are scheduled for Thursday. Men's semifinals are set for 9 a.m. Friday, and the women's semifinals are slated to begin at 11:30. Backdraw matches will be played for both men and women on Friday.
The men's championship and third place matches will be held 9 a.m. Saturday, while the women's championship is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Backdraw matches will follow.
Barry's women are the No. 1 seed. The No. 2 nationally-ranked Buccaneers enter the tournament with a 19-0 record and will play eighth-seeded Tampa in Thursday's quarters at noon. The No. 3 nationally-ranked men's team is seeded third and come into the league championships with an 18-5 mark. The Bucs men's team meets sixth-seeded Florida Tech at 9 a.m. in the quarters. Top-seeded Lynn has a first-round bye on the men's side.
Barry's men fell to Lynn in last year's SSC Championship match. The Bucs women's team beat Lynn to win their second straight SSC title last year.
