WINTER PARK, Fla.—Barry’s Sarah Broeseker and Brianna Smith have been recognized as Sunshine State Conference Softball Players of the Week after leading the 12th-ranked Buccaneers to a three-game sweep of Lynn.

It is the second time this season that the pair have earned the awards in tandem. They also garnered the first set of awards on Feb. 6. Smith picked up Pitcher of the Week awards on her own on Feb. 20 and Mar. 26.

Junior third baseman Broeseker led the Buccaneers’ hitters, batting .455 with two runs and five RBI. Broeseker hit safely in all three games of the series, posting a .500 on-base percentage. In the finale, she went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. She concluded the series with a .727 slugging percentage and was flawless in the field.

Senior hurler Smith tossed a pair of complete-game shutouts sweep against Lynn. Working 14.0 innings, Smith scattered four hits and three walks. She struck out 13. In a 3-0 win in the series opener, she pitched her third one-hit game of the season. She held the Fighting Knights to a meager .087 batting average in the two games in which she took the circle.

The Buccaneers close the regular season at Eckerd this weekend, and then await NCAA Tournament bids. The Bucs are currently fourth in the region, with eight teams advancing to the tournaments.
