Summer Soccer Camp At Barry

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Barry University men’s soccer assistant coach Henry Apaloo, and former Buccaneer Chris Rich will once again host their annual “Soccer Camp at Barry University” this summer.

The camp consists of a skills development program designed for kids of all skill levels. Sessions will focus on improving the player’s technical and tactical skills while creating a fun and memorable experience for all participants.

Apaloo is a native of Manchester, England where he came up through the Premiere League Academy while playing for Blackburn Rovers, Manchester United, Bolton Wanderers. In his native England, he also spent two years at Football League side Preston North End and went on to play for the England National Futsal Team.

After arriving at Barry in 2004, Apaloo helped the Bucs to 35-27-3 record. Apaloo made an immediate impact for the Bucs, starting all 16 games as a freshman, scoring three goals and seven assists. Apaloo continued his success as a sophomore with two goals and four assists. During the 2006 and 2007 seasons, Apaloo led the team in both goals and assists, scoring 11 goals with seven assists in 2006 and seven goals with five assists in 2007.

Apaloo was a three-time All-SSC selection and the first ever Buccaneer selected to the Daktronics All-South Region Team. During his junior year, Apaloo was named to the first team All-SSC, first team NSCAA All-Region and the Daktronics First Team All-Region.  He closed out his career as an offensive standout earning 68 points, 23 goals, 22 assists, and seven game-winning-goals.

After completing a distinguished four year career with the Bucs, Apaloo joined the staff as a graduate assistant for two years while completing his Master of Science in Sport Management.

He is now entering his 3rd season as the full-time assistant coach on the Buccaneers’ staff and contributed to a 37-15-8 overall mark.

Aside from his playing and coaching experience, both in the U.S. and overseas, Apaloo holds Football Association (FA) Level 1 and Level 2 Coaching Badges, as well as an NSCAA Level 1 Goalkeeping Certificate.

Camp Director Chris Rich is currently the assistant coach at Virginia Tech University. Prior to taking the post at Virginia Tech Coach Rich was on the staff at Florida International University in Miami, Fla. and at Barry University.

Prior to FIU, Rich spent four years as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Barry University, where he was the goalkeeper coach for the men’s team for four seasons and the women’s team for three seasons.

As a student-athlete at Barry, Rich was a captain and a four-year starter in goal for the Buccaneers. An All-Sunshine State Conference pick, Rich notched 28 career wins and eight shutouts between the pipes.

Aside from working as the assistant coach at FIU, Rich also coached at Kendall Soccer Coalition, where he was the head coach for the boys’ 96 Pre-Academy and U13 teams.

Rich holds a NSCAA Advanced National Diploma, a USSF 'B' license, and a NSCAA Advanced National Goalkeeping Diploma. In addition, he is currently an associate staff instructor for the NSCAA.
