MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University sophomore guard Derrick Bolanos was chosen to play for the Republic of Panama national team in CentroBasket 2012.
Bolanos will represent Panama in the Central American and Caribbean Championship in San Juan, Puerto Rico June 17-24.
"Mr. Bolanos has been selected for his outstanding talent and performance in the sport of basketball and for his leadership qualities," said Miguel Sanchiz Jr., president of Panama Basketball Federation.
Bolanos will begin practicing with the Panama team June 4.
In 19 games in which he started 11, Bolanos averaged 3.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game for Barry. He shot .375 from the field and .324 from beyond the three-point arc. He had eight steals, and averaged 21.1 minutes per game.
Bolanos has a 3.39 grade point average in Computer Information Systems.
