Barry University is sending three teams to the NCAA Division II National Championships Festival in Louisville, Ky. The Buccaneers will compete for national titles in women’s golf, men’s golf and women’s tennis Tuesday through Saturday.
Tickets to the championship events are available in single day and all-session packages ranging from $3-15. Fans can contact the Louisville Sports Commission regarding tickets at 502-272-8380 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Women’s Golf
The No. 6-ranked Buccaneers are making their first trip to the NCAA Championships since 2002. It is the second time in the program’s history Barry women’s golf team has advanced to the NCAA Championships.
Barry won two tournaments featuring 10 teams or more during the 2011-12 season, and also claimed a three-team event as well. The Buccaneers used one junior and four freshmen to qualify for nationals.
Junior Taylor Babcock leads the team with a 77.24 stroke average. She has eight top 10 and two top 5 finishes this year. Freshman Nancy Vergara, coming off a fourth place showing at the South Regional, has a 78.14 stroke average. Vergara has four top 5 finishes.
Freshman Daniela Murray joins Babcock and Vergara as an individual runner-up at different tournaments throughout the season. Freshman Paola Grande has two top 15 finishes, and freshman Francesca Perini has one top 15.
Men’s Golf
The No. 1-ranked Buccaneers are making their sixth NCAA Championships appearance and their fourth in a row. The Bucs won it all in 2007.
Barry won three tournaments and had five runner-up finishes in the 2011-12 season.
Senior All-American Daniel Stapff owns the school record for tournament victories at four. He leads the team with a 72.64 stroke average, and has six top 10 and three top 5 finishes this year. He won the St. Edward’s Invitational in March.
Junior Marcus Segerstrom has a 73.18 stroke average, which is second on the team. He has five top 10 and two top 5 finishes this year. Junior Simon Forsslund won the first event of the year. Sophomore Marcelo Huarte and Segerstrom tied the school record for low round, each firing a 65. Sophomore Scott Smyers has four top 10 and two top 5 finishes, including a runner-up at the Matlock Collegiate Classic.
Women’s Tennis
The No. 2-ranked Buccaneers are the defending NCAA Champs. Barry is making its 17th NCAA Championships appearance and its third straight trip to the site of the finals.
The Bucs have put together a 24-0 season, and captured Sunshine State Conference and Region titles. They are 14-0 against nationally-ranked teams this year.
Senior Caroline Wendling is three wins shy of the school career victories mark of 73. She is 17-2 this year. Senior Julie Stas is ranked No. 46 in the nation at No. 3 singles, and owns a 13-3 record.
Junior Cristina Valladares is ranked No. 12 at No. 1 singles with a 7-6 record. She and sophomore Mona Mansour are ranked No. 15 in the country at No. 1 doubles. Freshman Linda Fritschken is ranked No. 15 at No. 2 singles with a 12-1 mark.
