ROLLA, Mo.—Senior outfielder Grace Collins was named to the 2012 Daktronics, Inc., NCAA Division II Softball All-America Team for the second straight season.
Collins was named to the Third-Team after a .363 campaign where she scored 31 runs and stole 29 bases, leading the team in all three categories. She ranked 29th in NCAA Division II in stolen bases and 164th as the toughest to strikeout, whiffing just 10 times in 160 at-bats. She also drove in 14 runs and led the team with 11 sacrifices.
One of the most prolific hitters in Barry history, ranking second all-time in hits (229), fourth in stolen bases (77) and sixth in runs scored (127). She holds a .363 career average, good for sixth-best, and a .410 on-base percentage, which ranks eighth. An excellent bunter, she holds the school career record with 46 sacrifices.
Collins joins three others from the Sunshine State Conference on the All-America teams. Tampa’s Kayla Cox was a First-Team pitcher, her teammate Deanna Henriott made the Second-Team, while Rollins’ Monica Meadows was named along with Collins to the Third-Team.
Cox, who fanned 214 hitters in 124 2/3 innings, went 16-2 with a 0.34 ERA as a sophomore. Henriott, the SSC and South Region Pitcher of the Year, achieved a 21-6 record to go with a 1.13 ERA. The senior also stuck out a school-record 308 batters in 192 innings. Meadows, the SSC Player of the Year, led the Tars with a .419 average, 10 homers and 48 RBI.
Kutztown pitcher Samantha Derr, who led the Golden Bears to their first appearance in the quarterfinal round, was named by the Division II sports information directors as the “Ron Lenz Pitcher of the Year” and Central Oklahoma third baseman Kacie Edwards, part of a power-packed Broncho lineup, was chosen as this season’s “Ron Lenz Player of the Year.”
The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition. The team is voted on by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
