SAINT LEO, Fla. – Barry University’s men’s soccer fell at the hands of Saint Leo Saturday night, dropping their second consecutive game, 1-0, in the Buccaneers’ first conference match of the season.
Saint Leo (3-1,1-1) tallied the game’s first goal in the 44th minute mark after Aaron Gendreauput the ball on net. Barry goalkeeper Fred Perez made the save on Gendreau's initial shot but was not able to secure the rebound. Gendreaus put home the rebound, and gave the Lions the 1-0 advantage heading into the break.
Barry (1-3, 0-1 SSC) has struggled offensively thus far this season and was shut out for the second time in as many matches.
The Buccaneers finished with a 16 to 10 advantage in shots, but it was the Lions that scored the game’s only goal.
The Bucs’ focus now shifts to rival No. 1 Lynn University. The Fighting Knights boast a 6-0 record and were the preseason favorites to finish atop the Sunshine State Conference standings.
Lynn ended Barry’s season in 2012 advancing in the Regional Final of the NCAA Tournament by way of penalty kicks, and eliminating the Bucs.
The match highlights rivalry week for the Buccaneers. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. with live video coverage as well as live-stats available through the Barry University athletics website, GOBARRYBUCS.COM.
