2002: Sister John Karen Frei, O.P., Ph.D., and Professor Gerhild Packert, Ph.D. (Barry University School of Natural & Health Sciences) developed the initial proposal to NOAA

2003: following months of review and revisions, NOAA approved funding for a three year period (2003-2006)

2003: Jeremy Montague, Ph.D., and Linda Johnson, B.S., were recruited to co-direct & coordinate the program

2004: Ms. Johnson began recruitment of students

2004: Ms. Johnson moved to a full-time position with Borward County, and Ms. Helena Gianinni replaced her
