Program Overview
The nuclear medicine technology major requires a sound education in the basic sciences, especially the areas of biology, chemistry, and physics. If you are choosing nuclear medicine technology as a career, you should have a strong interest in the natural sciences as well as a desire for close patient contact and direct interaction with physicians and other health care professionals.
- Three years of academic work (90 credits) are completed at the main Barry campus.
- The final year is a 12-15 month internship completed at an off-campus internship site.
Program Options
There are two option for the major.
- The first is more rigorous and will enable you to be more competitive for the most desirable internships and jobs.
- The second is still challenging and will leave you very well prepared for this career.
Minor
Students graduate with a BS in Nuclear Medicine technology with a minor in Biology.
Summer Volunteer Work
We recommend that you do volunteer work at hospitals during the summers. This will allow you to be sure that this is the field you wish to pursue and will make you more competitive for internships in the future.
