Accelerated Option
The Accelerated Option in Nursing is available to individuals who are not registered nurses and who are in either of the following groups:
- those who have already earned a non-nursing bachelor's degree, or
- those who have no more than 6 liberal arts remaining and have at least a 3.0 GPA.
The program consists of two parts: pre-nursing and nursing courses. Courses taken during prior academic programs may be acceptable in meeting some pre-requisite course requirements.
Remaining pre-requisite courses including natural and behavioral sciences may be completed full-time or part-time at Barry or any institution convenient to the student. Courses taken at other institutions must be completed before enrolling at Barry.
Nursing requirements include both theory and clinical practice and may be earned only at Barry and only as a full-time student. The nursing portion of the program is four semesters from January to May of the following year. The nursing program is in addition to the time required to complete the prerequisite courses.
At program completion, the graduate will be granted the baccalaureate degree in nursing and will be eligible to take the licensure examination to become a registered nurse.
