1. What is the deadline to apply for the BSN Accelerated Option (AO) program?

The deadline for the Spring BSN AO program (starting in January) is October 31st of the preceding year.

2. How many students are accepted?

Approximately 15-25 students are accepted for the AO track.

3. What are the prerequisite courses for the BSN Accelerated Option program?

Please visit here for the list of Prerequisites. Meeting (either in person or online) with an advisor is necessary to assure proper program planning.

4. Do I have to finish all Prerequisites before I can submit an application to the Barry University Nursing Program?

No, it is best to apply early to allow nursing advisors to assist with planning and updates.

5. What is Pre-nursing?

If you do not have all the program pre-requisites completed in order to be reviewed by the Admissions Committee, you will be considered for admission to the Pre-Nursing track. Pre-Nursing is a pre-professional track that includes all the general education, prerequisites, and supporting courses needed for admission to the Accelerated Option BSN. Students may be able to transfer equivalent credits from another accredited college or university to the pre-nursing track.

There is no deadline to apply for pre-nursing. Based on the number of pre-requisites completed, students will be advised of the approximate date they will be ready to apply for the BSN program.

6. When will I know if I'm accepted to start the BSN program?

The Admissions Committee meets regularly to review completed applications. Applicants will be notified of their decision thereafter. The decision of the Admissions Committee is final.

7. Is there an entrance exam for the BSN program?

Yes, the ATI TEAS (Test of Essential Academic skills) is required. While the Admissions Committee does not specify a benchmark, students should make every effort to attain as high a score as possible in order to strengthen their application for admission to the BSN program. Admission to the program is competitive.

8. Is there a study guide for the ATI TEAS?

Yes. There are many resources available from ATI. Simply use a common search engine such as Google© and enter the terms “ATI TEAS.” This exam is used as an assessment tool by many universities nationwide so you can be assured that there are a plethora of resources available to help you prepare.

9. Can registration and advising be done online?

Online and telephone advising is available as soon as your completed application and unofficial transcripts have been received. Initial registration requires an original signature but subsequent registrations can be completed online.

10. I want to live on campus. Where can I find information about this?

11. Can I work while I’m in the program?

The Accelerated Option BSN is an intense program of study that requires 40+ hours/week of class, clinical, and study time in order to be successful. Students in the AO program will not be able to work and should make financial plans accordingly.
