Nursing Resource Center
Barry University Division of Nursing maintains a facility where students can begin their journey into a rewarding career, and foster confidence in the skills they attain.
The Nursing Resource Center (NRC) is where students go to learn and practice newly acquired skills in a safe environment that closely resembles a healthcare facility. The NRC is an interactive, state of the art facility that utilizes the latest technologies to provide real-world experience in a controlled, safe environment.
Designed to blend seamlessly with the theory lectures taught by faculty, the NRC goes beyond providing skills training. The NRC also houses a traditional and multimedia library to serve as an extensive resource for students and faculty alike. In conjunction with the Division of Information Technology (DoIT), the NRC’s computer lab plays an important role in providing the latest interactive programs.
The NRC serves a wide audience which includes; nursing faculty, undergraduate and graduate nursing students. Simulations are geared to each skill level, from basic assessment to advanced practice techniques.
An example of the latest technology incorporated into the NRC is SimMan. This high-fidelity human patient simulator offers the ability to provide simulation education to challenge and test students' clinical and decision-making skills during realistic patient-care scenarios. Extremely realistic, the SimMan simulator was specifically designed to meet the scenario-based training needs of Healthcare professionals.
The NRC is also equipped with skills trainers, such as blood pressure arms to practice manual blood pressure measurement and multi-sounds trainers that simulate heart, lung and abdominal sounds.
