Our
Vision Located on the campus of Barry
University in Miami, Florida at the crossroads of the Americas,
the Center for Dominican Studies began in 2001, as a collaborative partnership
of the Adrian Dominican Sisters, Barry University and the Friars
of the Province of St. Martin de Porres.
The purpose of the Center is to build, celebrate
and share the rich and diverse charisms of the Dominican tradition
and to be a place where the enduring Dominican tradition of contemplata
aliis tradere (contemplating and sharing with others the
fruits of that contemplation) is a lived reality.
Our Mission
The mission of the Center for Dominican Studies
is to enrich the Barry community, to serve the people and Church
of South Florida, and the worldwide Dominican family by creating
opportunities for excellence in theological scholarship, growth
in spiritual and ministerial formation; and active engagement in
social transformation at the local and global levels.
The Center for Dominican Studies will grow into
a uniquely Dominican community where a common life of study, prayer,
service and hospitality is lived by Sisters, Friars, students and
guests in a variety of residential settings that are in keeping
with different forms of contemporary Dominican life.
Our
Guiding Principles
1. A commitment to Dominic's mission of preaching
the Gospel through word, study and example of life.
2. A commitment to theological scholarship and
reflection that is praxis-based and interdisciplinary.
3. A commitment to engage various cultures within
the pluralistic global world.
4. A commitment to the arts and the aesthetic
dimension of human life.
5. A commitment to justice for all humankind and
the earth.
6. A commitment to on-going conversation
and fruitful collaboration among Dominican men and women and their
collaborators.
