Professor Koons came to Barry University School of Law after receiving the Master of Theological Studies degree from Harvard Divinity School where she explored the intersections of faith and social justice. While at Harvard, Professor Koons also served as a teaching fellow in the Sociology Department, focusing on social stratification by gender, race, and class. Parking is available in the lot on the west side of North Miami Avenue between Northeast 111th and 115th streets. Additional parking is available on the south side of 115th Street.

Professor Koons practiced law primarily in the fields of poverty and civil rights. She taught at the University of Mississippi School of Law. She has served with the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, the Supreme Court of Florida, the Advocacy Center for Persons with Disabilities, and Central Florida Legal Services. Professor Koons publications include the following:
