Barry Implements New Alcohol &
Other Drug Policy
In cooperation with a national effort to eliminate
high-risk and illegal drinking and substance abuse on today’s
college campuses, Barry University has formally adopted a parental/legal
guardian notification policy for alcohol and other drug violations
committed by students under the age of 21. The specific policy,
which became effective on July 1, 2003, is as follows:
In the event that a financially dependent student
under 21 years of age is found to be in violation of any aspect
of the Barry University Alcohol and Other Drug Policy, the University
will provide the individual’s parent(s) or legal guardian(s)
with written and/or verbal notification of the infraction.
As an important addition to Barry’s alcohol/other
drug education, prevention, and early intervention program, the
notification forges parental partnerships that help maximize student
academic success and personal development. This approach is also
consistent with the University’s commitment to fostering a
caring, spiritual, and principled learning community.

new policy please feel free to contact The Office of Dean of Students
