Dr. Alvaro Carreras


Álvaro Carreras, Jr. is an Assistant Professor and Academic Coordinator for Administration in the School of Adult and Continuing Education at Barry University. A native of Cuba, Dr. Carreras has over 20 years’ experience in academia. Prior to his current assignment as Academic Coordinator he was an Adjunct Professor at Barry University for 15 years. Dr. Carreras is a graduate of the University of Miami where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering as well as a Master of Business Administration. He earned a Doctorate in Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University. While his DBA concentration was in Management, his dissertation was in the field of Finance. He has worked in both the profit and nonprofit sectors and has held supervisory positions in finance, accounting, engineering, regulatory, and customer services. Dr. Carreras has held various positions in Kiwanis, including President, Director, and Sponsored Youth Chair and is the recipient of the George F. Hixson Fellowship Award.
