Barry alumna Tonjua Williams named president of St. Petersburg College

Barry University alumna Tonjua Williams, Ph.D., was recently selected to be the next president of St. Petersburg College. The college’s Board of Trustees voted unanimously on Williams’ appointment during a special meeting on May 31.

Williams is currently the senior vice president of Student Services at St. Petersburg College, a capacity she has served in since 2013. As SPC’s seventh president, she will be the college’s first woman and first African-American to serve as president.

Williams, a 30-year veteran of St. Petersburg College, previously served as vice president of Academic and Student Affairs and provost of the Tarpon Springs Campus.

She earned a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Barry University’s Adrian Dominican School of Education, a master’s degree in Counselor Education from the University of South Florida, and a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Humanities from Clearwater Christian College.
