University to test new emergency alert system June 30

University to test new emergency alert system June 30

Barry University’s Office of Public Safety, in collaboration with DoIT, is extending its emergency alert system that will provide an enhanced and more efficient method of notifying the Barry community about potential emergencies.

The University is partnering with Alertus to provide desktop emergency alerts, and initial testing of this new system will take place on June 30 around 3 p.m.

The desktop Alertus software will be deployed remotely, and once installed will appear as a yellow circle in the Windows system tray or Mac OS menu bar. (see image below)

Alertus

Alert messages will fill the screen of the primary monitor when a user is logged in or logs in while an alert is active. Please note the following:

  • Alerts will only be activated by Public Safety or other University officials
  • No personal information is gathered or transmitted, in accordance with the University’s Computer and Network Usage Policy
  • In the event of an emergency or questions about an alert message, please contact Public Safety at (305) 899-3333
  • For questions about the Desktop Alert software, please contact the IT Support Desk at (305) 899-3604

Again, the June 30 alert is for testing purposes only.
