On Saturday, April 12, 10 Barry University students took part in the Life Sciences South Florida Second Annual STEM Undergraduate Research Symposium at Florida International University. The symposium featured original research from students across various STEM fields.
Barry students presented eight research posters and two oral presentations. Nicole Lopez, a senior majoring in biology and a MARC U*STAR research scholar, won second place in the poster presentation competition, in which there were over 60 posters competing.
Barry was well represented at the symposium, which featured students from universities and colleges throughout South Florida including FIU, Barry University, Broward College, Florida Atlantic University, Florida Gulf Coast University, Indian River State College, Miami Dade College, Nova Southeastern University, Palm Beach State College and the University of Miami.
Barry’s participating student researchers were majors in biology, math and computer science, and physical sciences: Nicole Lopez, Wesam Azaizeh, Precious de Verteuil, Jarred Fiedler, Victoria Hoelscher, Jessica Ricketts, Daria Vasilyeva, Lukas Bijaminas, Denae Britsch, and Aarti Ragoonath.
Life Sciences South Florida is a consortium of 20 educational, economic development and research organizations dedicated to nurturing the life sciences industry in South Florida.
