Listed are recent research publications and presentations that have involved student researchers.

Publications

Dr. Tamara Hamilton together with Hannah Shy, Paula Mackin, Andrea Orvieto, Deepa Gharbharan, Geneva Peterson and Nick Bampos published a manuscript titled “Two-Step Mechanochemical Synthesis of Porphyrins” Faraday Discuss. 2014, 170, 59-69.

Dr. John Boulos together with Cristina Avila, Jan Jakubik, and Alena Randakova published manuscript titled: “Synthesis of N-Substituted Piperidine Salts as Potential Muscarinic Ligands for Alzheimer’s Applications”, Journal of Heterocyclic Chemistry, Sept. 2013.

The paper “MESAFace, a graphical interface to analyze the MESA output” in collaboration with Michael Wise and Aaron Mohammed has been published in Comput.Phys.Commun. 184 (2013) 1333-1338.

The paper "Quantitative investigation of axes-exchange in linear fit analysis", in collaboration with Dr. John Goehl and Renee Forcier, has been published in the December, 2013 issue of the Eur. J. Phys.

Dr. Hamilton and her student, Renata Kuninari do Nascimento, presented a poster, “Service-Learning in the Physical Sciences: Context and Experience with CHE135” at the Community Engagement Symposium, Barry University, March, 2015, and at the 7th Annual STEM Research Symposium, Barry University, April, 2015.

Dr. Hamilton and her student, Diana Cordero, presented a poster, “Mechanochemistry: a greener alternative for the synthesis of biologically important porphyrin targets” at the Florida Undergraduate Research Conference 2015, Daytona Beach, FL, February, 2015, at the 249th ACS National Meeting, Denver, CO, March, 2015, and at the 7th Annual STEM Research Symposium, Barry University, April, 2015.

Dr. Hamilton and her student, Qiwen Su, presented a poster, “A Series of meso-Tetrasubstituted Porphyrins Synthesized Using Mechanochemistry” at the 249th ACS National Meeting, Denver, CO, March, 2015 and at the 7th Annual STEM Research Symposium, Barry University, April, 2015.

Dr. Hamilton and her student, Taylor Sabol, presented a poster, “Greening the Oxidation Step of Porphyrin Synthesis by Mechanochemistry” at the 7th Annual STEM Research Symposium, Barry University, April, 2015.

Dr. Hamilton and her student, Miriam Basden, presented a poster, “Metal – organic assemblies of meso – tetrasubstituted porphyrins” at the 249th ACS National Meeting, Denver, CO, March, 2015 and at the 7th Annual STEM Research Symposium, Barry University, April, 2015.

Dr. Hamilton and her student, Victoria Hoelscher, presented a poster, "Entrainment sublimation for purification of mechanochemically-synthesized porphyrins" at the 249th ACS National Meeting in Denver, CO, March, 2015 and at the 7th Annual STEM Research Symposium, Barry University, April, 2015.

Undergraduate student Daria Vasilyeva presented original research work conducted with Dr. Giannotti and Dr. Goehl “Comparison of different approaches in extraction of a parameter in a Linear Fit” at the Fall FLAAPT (Florida American Association of Physics Teacher) meeting at the Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Friday, September 19-21, 2014.

Undergraduate student Wesam Azaizeh presented original research work conducted with Dr. Giannotti and Mr. Wise “Stellar evolution analysis MESAPlot” at the Fall FLAAPT (Florida American Association of Physics Teacher) meeting at the Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Friday, September 19-21, 2014.

Dr. Giannotti presented the lecture on “MESAFace” (which is an interface to analyze the data from the stellar evolutionary code MESA) at the MESA Summer School, UC Santa Barbara (UCSB), August 12 - 16, 2013. The interface presented was written at Barry by Dr. Giannotti, Michael Wise and Aaron Mohammed. It is now used in an undergraduate class at UCSB and by researchers and students in several places. It has several hundred downloads.

Dr. Boulos and his student, Jean Rhony, have attended and presented an undergraduate research poster at SERMACS conference in Raleigh, NC, November 2012.

Dr. Tony Wallner along with his student, Jason Llaneras presented their research findings at the 245th National ACS meeting in New Orleans, LA on April 8, 2013. The poster was entitled “Synthesis and solubility analysis comparing di-creatine citrate, tri-creatine citrate, and creatine pyruvate to creatine-monohydrate “
