Richard B Fien, MD, MPH, FACC
Dr. Richard Fien joined the Barry University PA Program faculty in 1999. He is currently the Medical Director and Associate Professor of Medical Education. He has previously served as Director of Physical Diagnosis, Director of Didactic Education for 13 years and Chair of the Admissions Committee.
Dr. Fien received his BS in chemistry from the University of Florida in 1972 and MD from the University of Miami School of Medicine in 1976. He did his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston Texas. In 1981, he completed his fellowship in Cardiovascular Diseases at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Miami. He later obtained a MPH at FIU in 2003. He is board certified in IM and a fellow of the American Board of Cardiology.
Prior to joining the faculty of the BUPAP, he was in the practice of IM, and Cardiovascular diseases in North Miami Florida for 16 years. He served as Chairman of Cardiology at North Miami Hospital and Vice President of the Medical Staff and Medical Director at Bon Secours Hospital.
Dr. Fien has taught multiple courses and served previously as course director of Physical Diagnosis, Medical Pathophysiology, Clinical Therapeutics, and the Primary Care Review course. He developed the Primary Care Review Conference in 1999 which has been held continuously every December since that time. He has been voted by PA students “Outstanding Faculty Member” eleven times, most recently in May 2018.
While at Barry University, Dr Fien as served as a Faculty Senator, and members of the Awards Committee, and Retention and Dismissal Committee. He is currently serving his 4th year on the IRB Committee. He also has served on the Faculty Evaluation Council in the School of Podiatric Medicine and currently mentors new PA faculty members. He is an active member of the American Public Health Association and an affiliate member of the AAPA.
