Admissions Requirements

Minimum of 90 semester hours of undergraduate study at an accredited institution. The most satisfactory preparation is the completion of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college of arts and sciences in the United States.

  • Credential must include:
    • Biology - 8 semester hours

    • General or inorganic chemistry - 8 semester hours

    • Organic chemistry - 8 semester hours

    • Physics - 8 semester hours

    • English - 6 semester hours

    • Also recommended are courses in cell and molecular biology, genetics, anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry to strengthen premedical background knowledge
  • Three (3) letters of recommendation or a Health Professional Advisory Report.
  • Current scores from the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT - link will take you off of the Barry site and open in a new browser window).
  • You must submit a TOEFL examination score if your university/college degree is from an institution in which English is not the language of instruction.
  • There are three versions of the TOEFL:

    • The paper-based test score ranges from 310 to 677. Barry University requires 550 at the graduate level.
    • The computer-based test score ranges from 0 to 300. Barry University requires require 213 at the graduate level.
    • The Internet-based test (iBT) score ranges from 0 to 120. Barry University requires require 79 at the graduate level.

Please note: The minimum acceptable score is higher for the Physician Assistant Program. For more information, see the “Application Procedures for International Students” section of the graduate catalog.

  • Standard AACPMAS application - see the application procedures listed below.
  • A personal interview arranged only by invitation of the Admission Committee. Prior to the interview, applicants should visit at least one office of a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine to discuss and observe the practice of podiatric medicine (a letter confirming that visit is required).
  • Additionally, applicants must display the mental, psychological and moral character that will enable them to successfully complete the educational program.
