Barry University Foot and Ankle Institute Clinics
The Barry University Foot and Ankle Institute was established in 1987 as part of the clinical training component for the doctoral program in Podiatric Medicine. The Institute currently includes four clinics which provide state-of-the-art care and treatment for disorders of the foot and ankle. They also serve as centers for teaching and research for Barry students and residents in the Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Program. The Institutes’ consultation rooms and surgical suite support teaching and research through service to more than 11,000 registered patients.
The clinics provide service to the communities in which they are based through their treatment of patients from a variety of cultural, ethnic, and economic backgrounds. High quality, ethical, and personal care utilizing evidence-based medicine is the standard for all clinics, regardless of the patient’s ability to pay. Each patient is personally attended to by a board certified university faculty, medical student, and often, a hospital resident.
The Institute has a commitment to serving minority and underserved communities. Of the more than 450,000 medically underserved residents in greater Miami, more than 250,000 patients have been cared for by Barry faculty and students. Our four Foot and Ankle Institutes are unique to the podiatric colleges and provide nearly $ 1-million a year in charitable care.
