Specialty Areas in Podiatric Medicine

After earning the DPM degree, you will continue your preparation as a podiatric physician by pursuing a residency program. Your residency will enable you to develop a specialization in one or more areas of podiatric medicine, thus increasing your options for practice. The areas of specialization within the field of podiatric medicine include:

Podiatric Orthopedics

Treatment of imperfect foot and leg structure and function through the use of special footwear, orthotic and prosthetic devices, and physical therapy.

Podiatric Primary Care

Prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of podiatric conditions as related to the total family health care environment.

Podiatric Sports Medicine

The prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of lower extremity disorders in athletes. Barry University sponsors the first accredited fellowship in Podiatric Sports Medicine.

Utilization of modern operative procedures for the alleviation of various foot and ankle problems.
