PICA Scholarships Awarded to Barry Seniors

The Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine is pleased to announce that William Burmeister and Titorya Stover, fourth-year podiatric medical students at BUSPM, have been awarded the Podiatric Insurance Company of America (PICA) Group Scholarship Award for 2011.
The students, who will each receive a $2,500 tuition scholarship, were selected by Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine's full-time podiatric clinical faculty based upon their excellent performance in third-year clinical rotations this past academic year. In 2010, Burmeister was part of a student research team that was awarded the $10,000 Dr. James V. Stelnicki Scholarship for Excellence in Lower Extremity Vascular Medicine for submission of their research paper entitled, "Variations of the Origin of the Arcuate Artery." Titorya who currently serves as the secretary of the Class of 2012, was awarded the Dr. Patricia Kopenhaver Scholarship in 2010 for her outstanding scholastic performance and personal achievement.
Dr. Jeffrey Jensen, Dean and Professor of Podiatric Medicine & Surgery lauded the students for their achievement and encouraged them "to maintain this quality standard of clinical excellence throughout your medical education at Barry, as well as in your podiatric professional careers." Dr. Jensen indicated, "We are grateful to PICA for their support of our students and their dedication to the profession of podiatric medicine."
PICA offers scholarships to help defray tuitions costs, supports various events throughout the year, including the Rite of Passage, and with ProAssurance is providing a $250,000 endowment fund to the American Podiatric Medical Association for podiatric medical school scholarships over a five year period.
