January 2012 - Nuala Kenny, OC, MD, presented "Neuroethics and the Neuroscience of Morality." This lecture was part of the St. Thomas/St. Catherine Lecture Series and was sponsored by the Barry University Council on Bioethics. Dr. Kenny is Professor Emeritus, Department of Bioethics, Dalhousie University; fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada; and advisor to the Catholic Health Alliance of Canada.

January 2012 - The 2012 Yves Congar Award was conferred to Roberto S. Goizueta, PhD. Following the award ceremony, Goizueta presented "Against the Pursuit of Happiness: The Preferential Option for the Poor and the Denial of Death." The event drew a large group of interested and engaged students, faculty, and staff. Goizueta is professor of Theology, Boston College and past president of the Catholic Theological Association of America and the Academy of Catholic Hispanic Theologians in the United States.

August 2011 - Dr. Gloria L. Schaab, SSJ, was selected as Barry's new director of graduate programs in theology and ministry. Schaab, associate professor of systematic theology and associate dean for general education, is a prolific writer, authoring The Creative Suffering of the Triune God (2007) and more than 50 articles, book chapters, monographs, and reviews. She holds a number of academic posts and is referee for several scholarly journals.

August 2011 - Rev. Alberto Rojas, a DMin student in Barry's Institute for Hispanic Latino Theology and Ministry, was ordained auxiliary bishop of Chicago. Rojas' experience as auxiliary bishop, along with his previous experience as a faculty member at Mundelein seminary and as a pastor, will help shape his doctoral study and thesis-project.

July 2011 - Lucia Baez Luzondo, a student in Barry's Master of Arts in Practical Theology and Ministry, was selected as the Director of Family Life Ministry in the Archdiocese of Miami.

Summer 2011 - Barry alumna, Rev. Deborah E. Geweke, DMin, published "Ampersand Faith: Re-Integrating Liturgy & Life through a Reappropriation of Mystical Theology and Praxis," in Currents in Theology and Mission.

Summer 2011 - Barry alumna, Maria Teresa Morgan, DMin, presented "A Franciscan Pedagogy of Non-Violent Speech: Reflections on the Eighth Commandment" at the College Theology Convention at Iona.

May 2011 - Doctor of Ministry graduates included Rev. Santhiyagu Arockiyasamy, MSFS, Francisco H. Castillo, Kathryn Knapp, and Valerie Turner. Steffano Montano was awarded the Master of Arts in Practical Theology and Ministry. Juan Quintal received the Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry for Hispanics. Receiving the baccalaureate were Maria Guadalupe Malvais (BA in Theology), and Anthony D'Alessio, Atenas Navarra, Richard Newell (BA in Philosophy).

April 2009 - Barry Professors' Book on HIV/AIDS Breaks New Ground. Calling for Justice throughout the World: Catholic Women Theologians Considering the Moral Ramifications of the HIV/AIDS Pandemic has just recently been released by Continuum Press. Dr. Mary Jo Iozzio, professor of Moral Theology and director of graduate programs in theology and ministry, contributed to and edited this work with assistance from Barry's Dr. Elsie Miranda and the College of the Holy Cross' Dr. Mary Doyle Roche.

April 4, 2009 - Theology Open House: Faculty and admissions personnel were available at this Open House to discuss Barry's graduate programs and unique study options with individuals interested in pursuing education and formation as ecclesial ministers.

March 23, 2009 - Bioethics Lecture: Rev. Bryan Massingale, STD, Associate Professor at Marquette University and President-Elect of the Catholic Theological Society of America, presented "Racial Injustice and Catholic Social Teaching: The Context for Addressing Racial Disparities in U.S. Health Care" at Barry University. About 100 Barry students, faculty and staff listened as Dr. Massingale's clearly delineated his analysis of institutionalization of white privilege and the concomitant racial disparities in U.S. health care. This lecture was sponsored by the Barry University Council on Bioethics and the Barry University's Department of Theology and Philosophy.

January 12, 2009 - Yves Congar Award Presentation and Lecture: Margaret Farley, RSM, PhD, Professor Emerita of Christian Ethics at Yale Divinity School was presented with the Yves Congar Award recognizing her significant contributions in light of Catholic intellectual tradition and in moving that tradition forward to meet the challenges of present day. Following the award presentation, Dr. Farley lectured to an audience of 100 Barry faculty, staff, and students on some of the principal issues addressed in her newly published book, A Framework for Christian Sexual Ethics (New York: Continuum Press, 2008).
