Traditional Program
A major requires a minimum of 40 credits including Botany, Zoology, Biological Foundations, Genetics, and at least one course from each of the following core areas:
1. Growth and development: Comparative Anatomy or Human Anatomy
2. Cellular and molecular biology: Microbiology and/or Cell Biology
3. Physiological and biochemical principles: Human Physiology or Comparative Physiology
4. Environmental biology: Marine Biology or Ecology
5. Biological theory: Evolution or Seminar
Students must also fulfill the following biology, chemistry, and physics requirements:
- BIO 300 - Special Topics as specified in the Undergraduate Catalog (Biology 300 courses do not count toward the major)
- General Chemistry & Qualitative Analysis and Organic Chemistry
- Calculus I
- 8 semester hours of physics
- Teaching of Biology in the Secondary School (students planning to teach at the secondary level only)
Electives for Biology include animal behavior, parasitology, histology, and embryology. These are often pre-requisites to admission in vet school
