New to Barry University (Fall, 2009), Dr. DeDonno is a cognitive psychologist with an emphasis in human performance. Prior to coming to Barry, Dr. DeDonno earned his B.S. at Myers University, an MBA at Baldwin Wallace College, his M.A. and Ph.D. at Case Western Reserve University.
Research Interests
Dr. DeDonno explores the factors that influence human performance. Initial research questions include for example, why do certain individuals do better on various tasks, and how do various cognitive and/or emotional factors impact an individual’s task performance. Additional questions include how cultural, ethnicity, gender, self-efficacy, time pressure and other group and individual factors impact individual performance.
Specific research studies have been designed to simulate various real-life decision making activities. As an example, the task selected for my thesis was Hold’em poker. Researchers in the field of economics have found that decisions in poker are similar to that of real-life decisions. While poker is a well known application, an example of a designed application is the Cognitive-Affective Slot Experiments (CASE) application. A co-developer, this application has been used to study among other things how perceptual personality variables relate to different dimensions of risk taking.
