M. Sylvia Fernandez, Ph.D. joined the Counseling Department in the Adrian Dominican School of Education in 2002 and holds the rank of Professor. Dr. Fernandez earned a B.A. in Psychology, B.S. in English Education, M.S. in Educational Psychology, and Ph.D. in Counselor Education from Southern Illinois University. She is credentialed as a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Supervision Specialty License in Arizona; a National Certified Counselor and a National Certified School Counselor by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC); an Approved Clinical Supervisor by The Center for Credentialing and Education (CCE); and a Mental Health Facilitator by the NBCC and I/WHO. Dr. Fernandez has extensive service and leadership experience in state, national, and international counseling professional organizations. She has served as Chair of the Board of Directors of NBCC-International. She also serves as the chapter faculty advisor for the Chi Sigma Iota-Beta Upsilon Chapter. Dr. Fernandez’s professional and research interests include multicultural issues in counseling and related disciplines, counselor education and credentialing, and clinical supervision.
