Students Present, Florida Academy of Sciences
The Florida Academy of Sciences (FAS) 69th annual conference was held March 18 through March 19, 2005 at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. Nine students had their research accepted for presentation and presented at the conference. These students and their presentations are as follows:
Graduate students:
Suzanne Bregler presented “Relationships between body perception disorders in women.”
Eric Rogers presented “A concurrent validity study of the Dementia Informant Rating Scale (DIRS).”
Undergraduate students:
Tariqa Ackbarali presented “Mismatch negativity and alexithymia.”
Delyanne Barros presented “Reducing intergroup bias through re-categorization.”
Stephanie Hendelman presented “Psychometric properties of the Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20).”
Natasha Jones presented “Social perception of suntan and attractiveness among college women.”
Frantz Moise presented “Mismatch negativity and the big five personality factors.”
Yvonne Stahl presented “Concurrent validity of the Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20): A replication.”
Melyssa Sueiro presented “Theoretical perspectives on spirituality and mental health among college students.”
Dr. Lopez exclaimed, “I was truly impressed with the presentations by Barry students. They were professional, interesting, and the students did a phenomenal job of representing the high quality research that is conducted at Barry!” Congratulations to these students for having their research accepted for presentation at FAS and for a job well done at the conference.
The students would like to thank the Psychology Department and faculty for supporting student participation in the conference by funding travel to the conference and by adequately preparing the students for their presentations. Special thanks to Dr. Maria Lopez for her support during the conference and for sponsoring a group dinner at the Columbia House the night before the conference. Fun was had by all!
For students interested in participating next year, the FAS conference has been scheduled for March 10 through March 11, 2006 at the Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Florida.
