Graduate Association of Students
in Psychology
The Graduate Association of Students in Psychology (GASP) returned
this past school year with a new design and increased member
participation. GASP aims to create an open environment that attracts,
develops, and rewards highly professional and effective people.
For the 2005-2006 year, the following chairs were elected to
lead committees Jane Lineman (professional development), Tara
Schuck (communications), and Sara Dekmar (student support).
GASP members have been extremely busy during this past semester.
The Professional Development Committee organized project “School
Search” where students contacted more than 40 APA accredited
schools via e-mail requesting information. Programs included
Neuropsychology, Clinical, Counseling, and Cognitive Behavioral.
Information is expected to be available for student use in Fall
2006. Additionally, the Student Support Committee has taken on
the “Pimp My Grad Lab” Project. The graduate lab
has been in the midst of renovation. Come by and see the changes
going on in the department. Future projects include “Interviewing
for Success”, where GASP members complete a series of questionnaires
regarding Master’s and Doctoral level programs in hopes
of enlightening future applicants. Also, project “Mark
That Date”, where GASP members found out when important
testing dates (e.g., GRE, FTCE) are and keeping students informed
will be implemented in the Fall 2006.
Members of GASP are able to benefit from a forum for voicing
concerns, academic support, career development, social support
and friendship, and community support. Membership is offered
to any graduate student in the Psychology Department. Responsibilities
include: serving on one of the committee, 3 hours of community
service, and attendance at 3 meetings per semesters.
