Scholarship Fund Endowed!
Dr. Marie-France Desrosiers (1964-2002) Associate Professor at
Barry University was a clinical psychologist who joined the
faculty in 1993. Dr. Desrosiers earned her B.A. in psychology
from Swarthmore College and her M.A. and Ph.D. (1992) from
the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her area of
specialty involved working with adults regarding stress management
and life coping skills. Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, she
was actively involved in the Haitian-American and African-American
communities in Miami. She firmly believed that “Knowledge
should serve not for status but for the benefit of others.” This
scholarship has been established to commemorate her academic
achievements, her love and dedication to the community and
her emphasis on social responsibility.
The first recipient of the Dr. Marie-France Desrosiers Scholarship
was Kristen Pearson, an undergraduate student in the department
of Psychology. The award was presented by Dr. Desrosiers family
(top) at the Twelfth Annual Psychology Students Research Forum.
