Scholarship Fund Endowed!

Dr. Marie-France Desrosiers (1964-2002) Associate Professor at Barry University was a clinical psychologist who joined the faculty in 1993. Dr. Desrosiers earned her B.A. in psychology from Swarthmore College and her M.A. and Ph.D. (1992) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her area of specialty involved working with adults regarding stress management and life coping skills. Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, she was actively involved in the Haitian-American and African-American communities in Miami. She firmly believed that “Knowledge should serve not for status but for the benefit of others.” This scholarship has been established to commemorate her academic achievements, her love and dedication to the community and her emphasis on social responsibility.

The first recipient of the Dr. Marie-France Desrosiers Scholarship was Kristen Pearson, an undergraduate student in the department of Psychology. The award was presented by Dr. Desrosiers family (top) at the Twelfth Annual Psychology Students Research Forum.
