Twelfth Annual Psychology Student Research Forum
Wednesday April 19, 2006 was a day for graduate
and undergraduate students from the Psychology Department to
display the research they worked so diligently on all year. The
Twelfth Annual Psychology Student Research Forum was a tremendous
success. Dr. Starratt and Dr. Stephen Koncsol started the morning
off with the symposium, “The Psychology of Optimal
Functioning.” During this time, undergraduate students
enrolled in the Senior Seminar class presented on The Biological
Approach to Positive Psychology: How Biology Influences Optimal
Functioning, Implementing Emotion Focused Approaches to Achieve
Life Satisfaction, and Self-Based Approaches to Positive
Organizational Psychology, Interpersonal
Relationships and Optimal Functioning in Positive Psychology,
Cognitive-Focused Approaches, Coping Mechanisms Within Positive
Psychology, and Special Populations in Positive Psychology.
Students extended their thanks to their professors and graduate
assistants Jane Lineman and Kendra Francis for their help and
support.
Following the symposium, 20 graduate students
and 14 undergraduate students filled the halls of the Psychology
Department with poster presentations on a variety of topics.
During the afternoon segment of the forum, graduate and undergraduate
students captured the audience’s attention as they presented
in a wide range of topics. The keynote speaker for the afternoon
segment was Dr. Glenda Martinez who presented on “Using
the MMPI-2 Fake
Bad Scale to Detect Malingering.” Dr. Martinez graduated
from Barry as Glenda Vasquez with her Bachelor’s Degree
in 2000 and later obtained her M.S. and Ph.D. from Nova Southeastern
University (2005).
The research forum was also an opportunity for many individuals
to be recognized for their hard work.
Tariqa Ackbarali was honored with the Outstanding Psychology
Senior award. Also, Dr. Shine presented the Friend of School
Psychology award to Dr. Roosa, head of Psychological Services
for Broward County.
