Students Present — Florida Academy of Sciences, Association for Psychological Science (APS), Phi Delta Kappa Research Day

The Florida Academy of Sciences (FAS) 70th annual conference was held March 10 through March 11, 2006 at the Florida Institute of Technology, Melbourne, Florida. Several students presented at the conference:

Undergraduate students:

Yvonne Stahl & Tariqa Ackbarali: Sensitivity to punishment, reward and alexithymia: A gender comparison.
Tariqa Ackbarali: Underlying neural correlates of the triple-code model.
Ashley Fiorilli: College students’ behaviors and attitudes towards tattoos.

Viviana Galindo: The role of depression, family satisfaction, and impulsivity in deliberate self-harm (DSH) in college students.
Nicole Hive: Written emotional expression: The role of intrusive thoughts and cognitive restructuring.
Frantz Moise: Study of the behavior and inhibition using affective pictures and events related to brain potentials.
Amber Soeters: Beginning teachers’ perception of elementary school students with DHD. (Amber will be attending Purdue University in the fall for a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology).
Yvonne Stahl: Gender differences in sensitivity to punishment and reward.
Monica Ubals:
Catholic parents, church doctrine, and acceptance of gay and lesbian children.
Nora Durand & Jeanette Pierce: Comparison of perceptions of child maltreatment in a multicultural sample.

Graduate students:

Eliot Lopez: A literature review of teenage sexual behavior and family structure.
Ria Parasram: A literature review of child sexual abuse and prostitution.
Christina Zafiris: Translation of the Word Reasoning Subtest of the WISC-IV to the Greek and comparison of performance between Greek and American children. (Christina will be attending the University of North Colorado in the fall for a Ph.D. in School Psychology).
Jane Lineman: A literature review of bully intervention programs.
Yenys Castillo: Gender differences in the perception of same-sex harassment: The effect of physical attractiveness and attitudes towards lesbians and gay men. (Yenys will be attended Nova Southeastern University in the Fall for a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology)
Sara Dekmar: Teachers’ perceptions of the importance of barriers to teaching adolescents with Attention/Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder.
Gerilyn Worthy: Adolescent sexuality: A literature review on the influences of sexual behavior.
